Governor Umo Eno’s Strides in Education
Education remains a key pillar of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, with deliberate investments aimed at expanding access to quality learning, rewarding excellence, and preparing young people for the opportunities of the future.
A major milestone of the administration is the introduction of Model Primary Schools across the state and Model Secondary Schools in the Three Senatorial District. These schools are designed to provide modern learning facilities, create a conducive environment for teaching and learning, and raise educational standards in line with global best practices.
In recognition of academic excellence, the government launched the UK Educational Trip (EduTrip), giving outstanding students the opportunity to gain international exposure, broaden their perspectives, and learn from educational systems beyond Nigeria’s shores.
The administration also recorded a significant achievement in tertiary education by upgrading the College of Education to a University of Education. This move has expanded access to higher education while strengthening the training of teachers and education professionals who will shape future generations.
Further demonstrating its commitment to academic advancement, the government secured accreditation for the Law and Medicine programmes at Akwa Ibom State University, opening new pathways for students aspiring to careers in these prestigious professions.
To ease the financial burden on students and their families, Governor Umo Eno approved an increase in the state bursary to ₦50,000, ensuring that more students receive the support needed to pursue their educational goals.
Through these strategic interventions, Governor Umo Eno continues to lay a solid foundation for a knowledge-driven economy, empowering the next generation of Akwa Ibom leaders with the education, skills, and opportunities required to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
