The Golden Initiative for All (GIFA)

The Golden Initiative for All, GIFA, is dedicated to enhancing family lives among vulnerable populations as well as the transformation of communities in Akwa Ibom State by ensuring that the global development framework, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), makes more meaning to the most vulnerable families.

GIFA recognises the critical role that families play in the development of families and sets out to address the specific needs of all members of the family, under 8 thematic areas:

Maternal and Child Healthcare

Support to families with multiple birth children

Enhancing Literacy and Learning

a) More than 15,000 pupils have received school supplies
b) GIFA Adult Education Initiative is ongoing for men and women from all the Local Government Areas who are learning the alphabets and how to write out their names and basic information needed in their daily interactions. Some participants have graduated and have been empowered for meaningful living

Women Empowerment

a) Economic empowerment of over 5000 women
b) Commencement of the ‘mill-to-market’ phase of the Eka Iberedem Hub Project highlighting a key milestone of lifting women's palm oil products from palm oil processing mills to formal markets. More than 100 rural women in Ini LGA have been identified for the pilot scheme, 30 of them who process their palm produce in the multi purpose mill built by GIFA, exhibited their products at the GIFA anniversary in Uyo. This project aligns with the UN Women's Empowerment Principles.
c) Financial empowerment and engagement of zero earners with skills
d) Empowerment of widows and organisation into production focused cooperatives

Fight Against Diseases

a) residents of rural communities have accessed free healthcare through the GIFA wheels of Hope programme in Itu, Esit Eket and Etim Ekpo LGAs to cover the three senatorial districts.
b) Sensitisations in markets and public places on hygiene practices to prevent cholera

Care for persons living with disabilities

Donation of crutches and wheelchairs to aid mobility
