In a bold demonstration of his administration’s commitment to educational development, Governor Umo Eno has marked yet another milestone with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art model primary school in Oruk Anam Local Government Area.
This achievement not only reinforces the Governor’s pledge to deliver one project per local government but also serves as part of activities marking his two years in office, underscoring his administration’s relentless pursuit of educational excellence.
Governor Eno, who was represented at the event by the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, eloquently reiterated the vision behind his “one project per local government” initiative.
“This school is a beacon of hope and a testament to our unwavering dedication to transforming the educational landscape of Akwa Ibom State.
“Fully equipped with modern facilities, these schools are designed to foster a conducive learning environment that inspires excellence and nurtures the next generation of leaders.”
The Governor’s representative further called on the community to take ownership of the new school and protect the facility, which he described as a symbol of equity and fulfilled promises.
“No child will be left behind due to poverty or lack of resources,” he assured, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to providing free and quality education for all.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of Oruk Anam LGA, Rt. Hon. Sunday Festus, extended heartfelt appreciation to the Governor, his entourage, and the community for their unwavering support. “The future of our children and our country hinges on the quality of education we provide,” he emphasized, pledging the people’s continuous support for the Governor’s vision beyond 2027.
Providing an overview of the project, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh, stated that the model primary school aligns with the Governor’s ARISE Agenda initiative. He noted that the newly commissioned facility is equipped with modern infrastructure aimed at enhancing the learning experience.
“This school features an ICT laboratory, a sick bay, a standard football field and playground, staff quarters, a library, a reliable water supply system, and solar-powered electricity for uninterrupted power,” Prof. Umoh revealed.
He added that the school also provides free uniforms and exercise books to students, thereby removing barriers to education and promoting equal access to learning. “This marks a significant milestone in our collective effort to empower the next generation of leaders through quality education,” he concluded.
The commissioning ceremony was well-attended by dignitaries who delivered goodwill messages and commended Governor Eno’s visionary leadership.
Among those present were Special Adviser on Labour, Sir Udo Kierian Akpan, the Paramount Ruler of Oruk Anam, Obong Engr. J.J. Obosi, Chairman of SUBEB, Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk, Deputy Chief Whip Hon. Sampson Idiong, and the MD/CEO of Alpha Moore, Engr. Uwem Etuk.
They all praised the administration’s impactful initiatives and pledged their continued support.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of 1,000 exercise books to the school by the local government Chairman, Rt. Hon. Sunday Festus and Hon. Sampson Idiong, symbolizing their support for the Governor’s transformative educational vision.
