In a renewed effort to enhance collaboration and improve the efficiency of Akwa Ibom’s Unified Payroll System, the Honourable Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, earlier today convened a high-level strategy session with payroll officers from across the state at the Office of the Accountant General.
The engagement brought together key stakeholders from the Mainstream Civil Service, Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (AKSUBEB), and the Local Government Civil Service Commission, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to a transparent and integrated payroll system.
Addressing participants, the Accountant General of the state, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien, lauded Dr. Ekpenyong for his proactive leadership and dedication to fostering cross-sectoral collaboration. He noted that the Commissioner’s efforts have deepened the synergy between the Ministry of Science and Digital Economy and other arms of the civil service, aligning with Governor Umo Eno’s vision for a Unified Government Ideology.
Dr. Ekpenyong, in his remarks, highlighted the pivotal role payroll officers play in driving data integrity and financial accountability. He emphasized that payroll processes must remain in-house and under the control of trained public servants, rather than outsourced to external consultants. This approach, he explained, is key to building sustainable capacity within the state’s workforce.
To further support this directive, the Commissioner announced that Governor Eno has approved the distribution of critical equipment, including computers, printers, and backup generators, to MDAs—especially those facing challenges with power supply. These tools, he noted, will enhance the efficiency and accuracy of payroll operations across the board.
Dr. Ekpenyong also urged payroll officers to keep communication lines open, engage in regular feedback loops, and uphold best practices to ensure prompt and precise salary payments for all civil servants.
In a final note of encouragement, the Commissioner revealed that new job opportunities will soon open up across various sectors of the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service. He called on officers to share the information with qualified relatives and friends, directing interested applicants to register via the official state employment portal.
