…Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Healthcare for All
In line with his administration’s ongoing efforts to establish Model Primary Health Centres across the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Pastor Umo Eno has commissioned a state-of-the-art Primary Health Centre in Utu Ikot Okpo, Etim-Ekpo Local Government Area.
The commissioning, held on Tuesday, underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring access to quality healthcare for all residents.
Representing the Governor at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, who highlighted the essence and features of the healthcare facility, emphasized the importance of universal health coverage and improved healthcare accessibility.
“The Governor’s ARISE Agenda prioritizes rural development and healthcare. This newly upgraded Primary Health Centre is a testament to his commitment,” Dr. John stated.
Highlighting the features and significance of the project , he added; “When we talk about universal health coverage, we are talking about access. To reinforce this, the Governor has inaugurated the Health Insurance Scheme to ensure that our people can benefit from quality healthcare. Today, you have a world-class facility right here, staffed with competent medical professionals ready to serve you.”
Equipped with modern medical facilities, the newly inaugurated health centre is set to provide quality primary healthcare services to residents of Etim-Ekpo, Oruk-Anam, Ukanafun, and Abak local government areas.
The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, who was the Special Guest of Honour and performed the inauguration of the healthcare facility, lauded the Governor’s dedication to healthcare development. He assured that the House of Assembly will continue to collaborate with the state government to enact laws that prioritize the health and well-being of the people.
Other stakeholders at the event, including the Political Leader of Etim-Ekpo, Barr. Emmanuel Enodidem (SAN), Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerete Ekanem, Chairman of Etim-Ekpo Local Government, Hon. Gideon Uwah, and House of Assembly Member, Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung, commended the Governor’s efforts. They described him as a “promise keeper” and pledged their support for his re-election in 2027 to sustain and expand his development initiatives.
Dr. Etok Antia, Director in charge of Public Health in the Ministry of Health, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner for Health, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to establishing modern Primary Health Centres in all 31 local government areas, describing Governor Eno as a “health-friendly” leader.
Speaking on behalf of the facility’s management and staff, Mrs. Magdalene Vincent Udoka, the Medical Officer in charge, expressed gratitude to the Governor for upgrading the health centre, ensuring improved healthcare delivery in the region.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by key government functionaries, including members of the State Executive Council, local government officials, board members, traditional rulers, women, and youth leaders.
