Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel has commiserated with the family of the Late Oku Ibom Ibibio III and Paramount Ruler of Onna Local Government Area Akwa Edidem Akpabio Udo Ukpa, on his passage to glory describing it as a sad eclipse of a colossus and a leading voice in the struggle for a better living conditions for the people of the oil bearing communities in the Niger Delta.
Governor Emmanuel stated this when he led a delegation comprising members of the state Executive Council in a condolence visit to the family of the late Patriarch at his Palace, Ikot Edor in Onna Local Government Area of the state.
He said the entire state has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Oku Ibom who was a statesman and a torch bearer having devoted his life and times to the service of the people.
He added that his abiding love for his people and community manifested in his unappologetic stance in the defence of what he knew belongs to his people.
Governor Emmanuel who observed that it is a thing of pleasure for a son to bury the father and not the other way round, said he came with the entire Exco to convey his condolence to the family as mark of respect to the Late Patriarch and the bereaved family.
He used the occasion to commend on the assistance rendered to family by all particularly the Paramount Ruler of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area Edidem Udo Ntuk Obom , whose contributions he said, was a show of brotherliness and prayed for a hitch- free ceremony to commit the Patriarch to eternal rest.
The family spokesman Reverend Stephen Udoukpa, expressed appreciation to Governor Emmanuel for leading a large encourage to convey his condolence and thanked him for the support given to the family adding that the gesture has gone along way to aid in giving a befitting burial to the late Patriarch.
The deceased who will be intered tomorrow 7th April 2017 at his hometown Ikot Edor in Onna Local Government Area, was untill his demise, the President Eket Senatorial District Traditional Rulers Council, Member Oil and Gas Preservation Committee of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Chairman Exxon Mobil Community Forum.
On the Governor's entourage were Secretary to the State Government Sir Etekamba Umoren, Head of Civil Service Mrs Ekerebong Akpan, Onna House of Assembly Member Hon Nse Essien, Wife of former Deputy Governor Senator Eme Ufot Ekaette, Chairman Onna Local Government Transition Committee Dr Joshua Ndoho, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Mr Ekerette Udoh, Special Assistant to the Governor on Religious Matters Reverend Daniel Akwatang and other Political Stalwart.
