Dr Dominic Ukpong

Dr Dominic Ukpong, is the Commissioner for Health.

An indigene of Eket LGA, he is a Consultant in Occupational Health. Born on April 1, 1948, Ukpong was the NMA chairman of Cross River State(1988-1989); Chairman of (National) NMA Committee for the Regulation of Private Medical Practice in Nigeria(1988).

Dominic Ukpong, an ex-student of St Patrick’s college, Calabar, graduated with M.B.B.S from the University of Benin, Benin city, Nigeria, in 1976. He is a Chief Consultant, Occupational Physician with a Diploma in Industrial health, (DIH) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

A certificate holder in Diving Medicine from the University of Aberdeen, (1990); Advanced Trauma and Life Support, (ATLS) from the Witwatersrand University, Region Houngton, Gauteng, Republic of South Africa, Dr. Ukpong is currently a certified trainer in ATLS.

The Health Commissioner who also trains in advance burns management, from St. Andrew Hospital, North East Thames Burns unit, Billerica, Essex, UK and Surgical Intensive Cardiac care in Jackson Memorial University, Miami Florida, USA.

A member of the American Commission of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), Ukpong retired in 2010 from Exxon Mobil as the group medical director and country manager, Medicine and Occupational Health Services Department, after 30 years of service.

Dr. Ukpong, a former soccer star and the current National Chairman of SOEHPON, is married with three children.
