A one day capacity building retreat for members of the state executive council has ended in Uyo with a call by Governor Udom Emmanuel on members to explore ways that will lead Akwa Ibom out of the present hard times in the country.

The retreat with theme, “Leading Akwa Ibom State Beyond Hard Times,” saw the state chief executive charging the executive council members to see the exercise as an avenue to reason beyond the ordinary and see ahead of the present challenges that are experienced in the nation.

“Let’s believe every situation we find ourselves is the best out of the worst situation that could happen,” he said, adding that “what will make a difference is the impact we are able to create in the minds of the common people.”

He said the essence of the retreat is to create leaders out of the respective executive council members, and thanked them for their resilience which he said was an indication that “we are all buckled up and ready to go.”

Mr Emmanuel advised his cabinet members, quoting Mahatma Ghandi, by saying that to get a different result in line with the widely clamoured paradigm shift, there must be a movement from the old methods or level of working.

“So many dreams can be fulfilled if we put the right environment ahead for people to actually realize and achieve their potentials.”

He described the exercise as an imperative to put the cabinet members in the right frame of mind,”build self confidence that we actually know what we are doing”

In making a case for the immediate completion of the strategic development plan in the state, he said, “we must work with acceleration and speed, we must bring this module to a close and I hope we conclude by the time we come back in July.”

He announced that the Commissioner for Transport, Mr Orman Esin’s idea generated and presented in the last strategic session, was adjudged the best, warranting the presentation of a new “Ford Ranger Double Prado” for his personal use.

The retreat organized by the Institute for National Transformation was anchored by Prof. Vincent Anigbogu who is the Director General of the institute.
