IKOT EKPENE SENATORIAL DISTRICT ENDORSES UDOM, AKPABIO FOR SECOND TERM

The people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District have endorsed Governor Udom Emmanuel and the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio for another term in office.
The endorsement of the duo at Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium followed a motion by the majority leader in the state House of Assembly, Sir Udo Kerian Akpan and seconded by the Chief Whip, Mr Emmanuel Ekpenyong.
The people referred to the outstanding performances by the Governor and effective representation by Senator Godswill Akpabio as justification for their decision.
While reacting to the endorsement, Governor Udom Emmanuel thanked the people for honouring him, his wife Martha, the Senate Minority Leader and Wife, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio and prayed God to reward them with honour.
Governor Emmanuel described the event as a wonderful show of love and appreciation which would not be taken for granted and expressed appreciation to Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District for endorsing them to return unopposed.
He spoke of efforts by his administration at developing the district and announced that the 26 kilometre dualized Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road which is currently less than 2 kilometres completion would be inaugurated by the first quarter of next year.
According to him, his administration is doing everything possible to make the Four Points Sheraton Hotel at Ikot Ekpene ready for full operations soon.
“Inside Ikot Ekpene, we have done 4.2 Kilometres Abak-Ifia, Ikpe Mbak Eyop-Ikot Abia Ossom-Nkor road and spurs in Ikot Ekpene and Obot Akara.”
He explained that industrialization cannot be put on nothing apart from Infrasturucture such as, good road network, power supply and International market among others which are currently being undertaken by his government in the district.
He mentioned the Palm Kernel cracker being built at Essien Udim in collaboration with UNIDO and Federal Government, Rice Production Centre at Ini Local Government, Modern Fertilizer Blending Plant in Abak and FADAMA Cassava projects in all the ten local government areas as measures to greatly stimulate Agriculture and Agro-based Industries.
The Governor assured the people that apart from the fertilizer blending factory, rice mill and cassava processing plants, more bigger industries would soon commence in the district.
Akwa Ibom, the Governor said, was now being adjudged one of the best states that is producing secondary healthcare services to the people and referred to the recently commissioned fully digitalized Ikono General Hospital and the nearly completed Ikot Okoro General Hospital.
Governor Emmanuel said that the Technical College at Ikot Edor in Ikot Ekpene was completely taken over by the state government, in addition to interventions in several schools in the district and also recounted that the best equipped and functional Emergency Operation and Infectious Disease Centre was opened in Ikot Ekpene by his administration.
Also, the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio thanked the people for turning out enmasse to endorse them for a second term in office and highlighted some aspects of his empowerment to the senatorial district and the Constituents.
” I included roads that we did all the way from Ukanafun, we have done some in Oruk Anam, we are yet to commission most of our projects in Ika. We have done in Ini, we have built market stores in all the 10 Local Government Areas of the senatorial district. We have done boreholes everywhere. We have executed over 58 projects and we are still doing more under what they call, Constituency Projects.”
The Senate Minority Leader assured the people of uncommon representation in the years ahead, and advised them not to worry about elections which he said was all about voting.
He encouraged the constituent to always be thankful to God for life, remain peaceful, pray against disunity in Nigeria while also lending assistance to the needy in their midst.
The wife of the State Governor, Mrs Martha Emmanuel who joined her husband at the podium and her predecessor, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio expressed joy with the people for the second term support and prayed God’s reward upon them.
Earlier, the Chairman on the occasion and former deputy Governor of the state, Dr Chris Ekpenyong maintained that his people invited Governor Emmanuel who is a strategic thinker, planner and operator to Ikot Ekpene for a second term endorsement on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in view of the industries and other infrastructure in the state but appealed for more in the coming years.
He referred to Senator Akpabio as the senatorial district leader who has not disappointed them and promised of their resolve to stand by him.
In the same vein, the State Chairman of PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo noted that the resolutions endorsing the two personalities were based on good performance and promised that the party will not joke with superlative products.
The event witnessed, goodwill messages by Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien on behalf of Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency, Obong Eno Akpan from Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Sir Sunday Udo Akpan who spoke for Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency and Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem the PDP national legal adviser, who revealed the position of Abak, Etim-Ekpo, Ika Federal Constituency.
Souvernir presentations were made to the Governor and Senate Minority Leader as part of the major highlights of the event, which was witnessed by a mammoth crowd of supporters and political chieftains from across the state.
