A six kilometer road linking Nsit Atai with Ibesikpo Asutan local Government Area, executed by Governor Udom Emmanuel has been commissioned by the Senate Minority Leader and immediate past Governor of the State, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
He said the road, Nda Nsit-Idiaba-Ikot Abasi Road was a fulfillment of the promise he made to the people during his campaign visit to Nsit Atai, March, 2015.
Mr Emmanuel said he was happy because the commissioning of the project marks the fulfillment of his promise to the people.
“There is nothing that disturbs a leader as when you make a promise and due to unforeseen circumstances unable to fulfill that promise, you will feel bad, that is why I’m standing here to thank the contractors because even though we have not completely paid them on this job, they used their money to complete this job for us to commission this road today.”
Governor Emmanuel thanked the contractors for a project well executed, and also commended them for being community-friendly.11
“They were very community-friendly, I didn’t receive any complaint. I am sure once the youths don’t complain, the elders won’t complain, when the contractor told me how he was advancing on the road I didn’t believe him.”
The Governor recounted that he had inspected the road during a rainy day and was impressed with the drainage system in place and also thanked the Commissioner for Works for effective supervision to maintain the standard.
The Governor thanked the community for their cooperation in embracing development, and assured them of a major investment to be sited in the area to complement the activities of the Ibom International Airport.
“We are working on something and you will get excited about it, we are working on something that will change the economy lifestyle of this region, it’s not going to be a State Government project but a world class project,” the Governor assured.
Speaking, a community leader in the area, former Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Major General Edet Akpan(rtd) said the road has restored hope and life among the Nsit Atai people.
General Akpan said he had refused to support Governor Emmanuel at the onset because he wanted to assess his performance, said he was now confident that the Governor was on course and will effectively lead the state for two terms.
“At the beginning of your tenure, I refused to join the bandwagon to endorse you for a second term. I wanted to observe your performance. Today, I appreciate your good works and I can tell you, I have joined the bandwagon. I join the Ibibio people to endorse you for a second term in Office,” he said.
Speaking while commissioning the road, Senator Akpabio assured Governor Emmanuel that he had the support of the entire state as a result of his ability to deliver massive projects despite the shortfall in revenue.
“My dear Governor Udom Emmanuel, I know that despite the recession, you are busy commissioning new roads in the nooks and crannies of the state, at the same time some people from other parties are campaigning to become Governor. Allow them to run campaign don’t mind them, be rest assured that in 2019 these fantastic projects that you have given to Akwa Ibom people will campaign for you,” Akpabio said.
Also speaking, the Federal Lawmaker representing Uyo in the House of Representatives, Mr Michael Enyong said the Governor has silenced critics by spreading projects across the state.
Another lawmaker, Mr Aniekan Uko who represents Ibesikpo Asutan in the House of Assembly thanked the Governor and assured him that his people will keep supporting him to deliver more.
